Kitchen

Protecting the places where most fires start

In France, one in five home fires is caused by kitchen appliances. Improving safety in your kitchen is essential for creating a safer home.

A heat detector can alert you in case of a fire, without sounding every time you cook. It should be connected to other smoke detectors throughout the house, so you'll always be alerted, no matter where you are.

For even more protection, consider a fire extinguisher and a fire blanket. There are fire extinguishers for different types of fires, but a reliable Class ABC extinguisher can handle the most common kitchen fires. Regardless, fire blankets are one of the only suitable options for grease fires, as adding water would quickly cause the fire to get out of control.

Living spaces

Relax with confidence

When we're at home, we spend most of our time in our living spaces. This is where we're most likely to be if a fire breaks out or carbon monoxide levels become dangerous.

We recommend using mains- or battery-powered detectors, either independently or connected to your detector network. Choose a trusted brand that offers detectors with a long warranty to ensure performance. You should also ensure you maintain your detectors properly by testing and cleaning them at least once a month.

Your living space is also a great place to identify risks and proactively address them. Make sure to have fireplaces inspected and maintained annually, never overload electrical outlets, and be extra careful when smoking or using candles.

Rooms

Help you sleep well

In some ways, bedroom safety is similar to other living spaces. For example, a working smoke and carbon monoxide detector is essential. However, there are a few things you can do to make your space even safer.

While smoke detectors must be located on the ceiling (where smoke rises), carbon monoxide detectors are more effective at a level similar to that of the room's occupants. It is recommended to place them at bed height. Battery-powered detectors make this possible without any wiring issues.

Corridors and landings

Protect your main exits

Hallways and landings should be equipped with suitable smoke detectors. These are your main exit routes and places where a fire could go undetected for a long time.

At a minimum, you should install mains- or battery-powered smoke detectors in every hallway and make sure they are part of your cleaning and maintenance routine. If all your detectors are connected to the same system, you will be alerted wherever you are.

Garages and sheds

Reliable protection, wherever you need it

When planning to protect your home, it can be easy to overlook outbuildings, garages, and sheds. While smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are not recommended as they can cause nuisance alarms, other forms of fire safety can be implemented.

For example, if you use your garage or shed for DIY or as a workshop, it's important to keep a fire extinguisher there. Many of our fire extinguishers are designed for use on gasoline and fuel fires, which are the most common types found in garages.
